Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ Acceptable Use Agreement for Tableau Developers

Updated August 11, 2020

Purpose

The purpose of the Acceptable Use Agreement (AUA) for Tableau Developers is:

  • To ensure that the use of Tableau Desktop Pro Licenses and Tableau Server (Tableau) is consistent with the principles and values that govern the Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ (Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ) and its component institutions.
  • To ensure that Tableau is used for its intended purposes.
  • To establish processes for addressing agreement violations.

Scope

This agreement applies to all Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ faculty, staff, students, and affiliates with rights to publish data, data sources, and visualizations on the Tableau server.

Administration

Individuals who are granted access to Tableau are governed by existing Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ policies governing the privacy and protection of Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ users and data.

Tableau and access to content areas are managed by the Center for Data, Analytics, and Technology Alliance (Center for DATA).

Upon receipt of a signed AUA for Tableau Developers, the Center for DATA will provide the Tableau Developer with a Tableau Desktop license for publishing to Tableau server.

Upon receiving data-steward approval(s), the Tableau Developer may upload data to designated content area(s) on Tableau Server and share visualizations with approved audiences.

User Responsibility

It is the Tableau Developer’s responsibility to read, understand, and adhere to all applicable Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ technology policies, including the Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ Operation and Maintenance of Property Policy, and specifically those policies related to cybersecurity, information security, and data and information classification and handling.

Storage, display, or inclusion of certain data, including, but not limited to, Social Security numbers and electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI), is prohibited for Tableau Server use.

The Tableau Developer is responsible for reading and adhering to their institution’s acceptable use policies. These policies are listed in the knowledge base article: .

The Tableau Developer shall obtain prior approval from all relevant data stewards for use of institutional data and for the identification of users who will access the data visualizations.

The Tableau Developer is responsible for regularly reviewing and updating their Tableau User Group lists.

The Tableau Developer must notify the Center for DATA when they transfer to another role within Â̾ÞÈËÊÓƵ, or they no longer require Tableau Desktop Pro, access to the Tableau Server, and/or access to content to fulfill job responsibilities.

Enforcement

If a Tableau Developer does not actively develop content on Tableau Server within three months of receiving a license, the Center for DATA may revoke their Tableau Desktop Pro license and restrict access to content area(s).

Content on Tableau Server may be audited. If the Center of DATA determines there has been a breach of this AUA for Tableau Developers, Desktop Pro and Tableau Server licenses may be revoked, content areas may be restricted, and data steward(s) and Cybersecurity & Networking (CS&N) may be notified. This AUA in no way restricts data stewards or CS&N from taking additional action.
